About Churches Homeless Action
Churches Homeless Action was founded in 2003 when we launched our first Christmas Appeal, encouraging people to buy £5 gift vouchers that would be sent out to charities and services working with homeless and vulnerably housed people in and around Portsmouth. Over the last 11 years the scheme has grown and we have now raised a total of £109,000 for those in desperate need of support at Christmas.
Over the years our work has expanded and we work closely with foodbanks and other organisations to promote and support services throughout the year. In September 2008 we organised the event “No House, No Home”, in conjunction with Portsmouth RC Deanery Justice & Peace Group to raise awareness of the organisations and people who are helping to tackle homelessness in Portsmouth.
In January 2013 we organised the Universal Confusion Seminar that was held at the Haven in Portsmouth where we invited speakers from local services and explored the impact of recent changes to benefits and cuts to local council funding.
We have also worked with Portsmouth County Council to create a new homelessness category on their Ask Sherlock website which lists all services and projects in Portsmouth City. For more information please visit Ask Sherlock.
We rely solely on donations to continue this essential work to help those in need. If you are able to support us in any way, please visit the How you can help page. Any donations will be equally distributed between our supported services.
Membership of CHA is open to active individuals from Churches and homelessness organisations – CHA has a committee that meets about three times a year to plan activities. For more information contact:
